Why switch to community shared solar?

Saves you money

Helps create a more secure electrical grid for your family and community

Reduces our dependence on fossil fuels

How it works:

Community Shared Solar developer installs photovoltaic (PV) panels on their project site, which generate renewable electricity and feed into the local utility grid.

You subscribe to enough solar power to cover your annual electricity usage, which is already powered by the same local grid.

Your utility bill is credited with the electricity generated by the solar array, offsetting a percentage of what you typically owe the utility.

Why does community shared solar exist?

Community Shared Solar is an installation-free model of renewable energy that allows members of a community to share in the benefits of solar power by simply opting to receive power from their locally available solar arrays. It has been a boon for many states looking to encourage renewable energy integration without forcing the financial burden on their residents!

Because of the lack of assembly, this is a great solution for homeowners, renters, and tenants of shared buildings to save money on their electricity bills while participating in the green energy movement. There is no opt-in fee, and it is free to opt out if for any reason you should choose to.

It is our job at Shared Solar Advisors to walk you through the process of getting your property set up. That means answering all the questions you may have about the community shared solar process, helping you to find the solar field closest to you, and calling your utility company with you to help you take advantage of the program!

Frequently asked questions:

How Much Does It Cost?

The community solar program doesn't cost you anything, but you do have to qualify. This means having a good credit score and living in or owning the home in question for over six months. The service itself has no fees, you just have to pay the cheaper electricity bill!

Why "5-15%" or "Up to XX%"?

"5-15%"

Discounts associated with community solar vary based on several factors, the top three being: State, Utility Company, and Solar Developer. When we say here that the discount is 5-15%, we are referring to the range of discounts available with ever partner in every state we work with at the moment. Always confirm what discount is available to you in your state with one of our representatives before enrolling.

"Up to XX%"

Community solar discounts come from credits you receive that cancel out electrical usage charges on your bills. They are not able to cancel out your utility's service charges, connection fees, equipment costs, late payment penalties, etc. So when the community solar program says you will get a "Up to XX%" discount, it applies to the actual electrical usage, which depending on your circumstances may or may not make up the vast majority of your bill each month.

e.g.

A $500 electrical bill may be $10 in flat fees and $490 of usage, so a 10% discount from community solar means $48 dollars saved (9.8% overall savings).

A $50 electrical bill may be $10 in flat fees and $40 of usage, so a 10% discount from community solar means $4 saved (8% overall savings)

Is My Utility Company Okay With This?

Yes! This is a state-wide initiative that is moving us all in a more sustainable direction. No matter what, utility companies are legally obligated to comply with your participation.

Will My Bill Ever Be Higher?

Absolutely not. This is a discount program designed to financially incentivize homeowners to learn more about, and participate in, the green energy movement.

What Happens if the Solar Field Gets Damaged?

You are still connected to the utility grid, so your service will never be impacted in any way, shape, or form. Solar fields add stability to our local grid by diversifying means of energy production. Any liability for the field itself rests squarely on the developer and their investors.

Who Do I Talk To If I Have Service Issues?

Your utility company will continue to be your point of contact for service-related issues. It's that easy.

So I Get Two Bills?

Yes, when the solar fields go live, you'll start receiving two bills each month: what is left of your regular electric utility bill and your solar bill, which will is always discounted with the 5-15% you enroll for. Don't worry! Even though you are receiving two bills, you will always be getting a discounted rate from month to month.
